Despite Turbulent Financial Problems - Kuskokwim 300 Will Continue

The past few weeks have brought turbulent ordeals for the Kuskokwim Sled Dog Race. Former Race Manager Stacy Gillilan allegedly embezzled funds from the races heavily relied upon pull-tab fund raising events.

Pull-tabs are "luck of chance" tickets allowing government agencies or non-profit organizations raise money through the selling of the pull-tab tickets. The tickets are sold - and prizes are awarded to lucky winners.

It's reported that the city of Bethel, Alaska wasn't paid its $20,000 in gaming taxes, and $2,000 was missing from the race's pull-tab collections.

Though legal costs continue to rise in the investigation of the incident - new Race Manager, Myron Angstman, believes the race can pull together & bring back its financial stability.

A renovated sponsorship program & cuts on outgoing costs are just some of the many steps involved in keeping the Kuskokwim 300 race alive.

The race is currently selling each mile of the 300 mile race to individuals for $100 a piece - in an effort to recover lingering debts. Consider supporting this history-laden race by sponsoring a mile. During the past 25 years, the Kusko 300 has become one of the most well-known, sought after Mid-Distance mushing race in the world.

As stated from the Kusko race website, "We want people to feel ownership of this event," Race Manager Angstman shared. He showed his interest in the program by purchasing three of the miles, one for himself, his wife, and his granddaughter. "My granddaughter owns mile 300, I hope she still does 30 years from now."
